Funky Fluid are back in our cool room – hooray!!
These guys were a favourite the first time we brought them over, so we are very happy to have them back with a bunch of new beers. I think their fruited smoothie sours are what people know them for, but they also produce an extensive range of excellent hoppy beers. And the first one to show off is their core range hazy IPA/NEIPA, imaginatively named Cloudy.
On the pour you see where the name comes from. A very cloudy light yellow body with a rich white foam that lasts. The aroma is all about the tropical fruit, particularly mango, grapefruit and passionfruit as it is heavily dry-hopped with Citra. Mosaic and Amarillo hops.
Lots of upfront fruit sweetness – mango, passionfruit, orange and grapefruit citrus, melon and pineapple. The mouthfeel is smooth, delicate and fluffy. Slightly resinous hop bitterness stops it from being too sweet and offer a late level of bitterness that carries through to the aftertaste.
A really easy drinking beer, that has a nice balance of sweet fruit and hop bitterness. It will elicit the argument as to whether it is a NEIPA or not with that much bitterness, but I enjoyed the beer all the same.
