If anybody ever tells you lagers are boring, tell them to find one of these from Andechs!

Andechs is the monastery brewery from just outside of Munich, and I really do think that any time I see a new beer of their offered, you are guaranteed it will be in our beer packs.  They just don’t make a bad beer, but that’s what you get from centuries of brewing tradition.

I had to look up what a ‘bergbock’ was as I hadn’t had one before.  It is a strong, golden lager (particularly a Helles lager), and when trying to find other examples of the style, I couldn’t find any others.  I’m sure there must be some out there, but for now this is something pretty unique from the good Monks of Andechs.

It pours a crystal clear, golden colour and has an inviting aroma of sweet malt, yellow fruits and some spicing. This follows through in the taste, with a welcoming sweetness up front, a well-balanced mix of malt and fruit notes, with a gentle hop bitterness just to dry things out a little.

The beer retains a silky smoothness throughout, and it makes you think there might be honey in there.  But as we know, our good German Monks wouldn’t dream of adding such an adjunct to their beer!
