The Lindemans brewery is considered something of a pioneer in the fruit lambic space when they introduced their Kriek (1979) and Framboise (1980). Over two decades later they introduced the ‘Tarot’ series in 2023.
We included the yellow fruit Tarot d’Or in our February pack, so now time to try the other beer in the series.
The base beer is a big Belgian Strong Ale of 8% ABV, blended with an amount of Lindemans lambic beer, and with the fruit (both whole fruit and syrup) additions being blueberries, blackcurrants and elderberries.
It pours a lovely looking reddish purple colour, with a fancy looking pink-tinged foam. The aroma is all about the berries, sweet and inviting. Malt and fruit sweetness up front, there isn’t really any sourness to this beer, rather a tart note from the berries that lightens the mouthfeel.
When this beer was introduced in 2023, it was immediately awarded ‘World’s Best Fruit Beer’ at the 2023 World Beer Awards. Which was a pretty nice way to introduce your new beer to the world market!
